Facebook Share not showing featured image

Hi guys,

I have used WordPress SEO plugin to generate OG tags, and after posting articles I have used Facebook Debugging tool to refresh the OG tags.

But every time when I share an article via Newspaper’s buttons, or via my Facebook Fan Page, the featured image appears to be broken. I’m not sure how to fix this issue, could you please advise?

FB often has issues capturing images, particularly in the a.m. Sometimes they may have an empty box with just your site name/URL, and nothing else.

Often you may need to share, then go to your timeline and use the “refresh attachment” option.

In some cases the image will appear automatically after sharing.

This is unrelated to your site or theme. FB just gets messed up at times as they are still a young tech company making it up as they go. Similarly their promote post system broken as they push people to use the new “ad manager” (trying to copy Twitter basically).

They are a web property still in development at all times. So, you cannot “control” what they do, only “give them hints” and hope it works.

I deal with this every day across our news network – some using different theme, some using Newsmag, some not even using WordPress and properly optimized.

It’s the nature of FB that sometimes it works, sometimes it does not. Sorry!

I just tried one of your pages now and I had no problem with Fb.

Yes, as I said — it’s random. When FB gets overloaded with too many “capture transactions” — their capture basically times out.

Super annoying, but not much anybody can do about it.

At least they know about the issue and FINALLY couple months back added the “refresh attachment” option. Even with this in the early a.m. on weekdays, I have to come back in 40 min and retry as the first couple retries still don’t work — either missing photo, or just a link to the sitename in the box with no headline/excerpt capture.

This is why @centennia can do it now, but then a day later it doesn’t work.

One note; once “anybody” has captured it, it will tend to work thereafter as it’s been cached/captured. So, future shares from other folk usually work once you have a single good capture from “anybody.”

Using shortcodes can also exacerbate this issue, as on our main site we use our own shortcodes for social click-through tracking.

Thanks both for your response, everything seems to be working fine now.
And I really appreciate your input, Chris. It’s really annoying when I can’t figure out the cause of the problem. I contacted my host provider and he said that the images were shown when he shared an article.

Will keep this in mind whenever this happens again!

I also have this problem,

It started about a week ago, everything was working fine and then it stopped generating the images for facebook posts for no apparent reason, maybe it was the recent Yoast update that triggered it, I’m not sure.

Now I have to save the post so it generates the featured image from the video, go back into the Yoast panel, upload the image to facebook re-save the post and then go to my site, refresh the page and try to share it again mostly it will share the image with the post but not always. Not a big problem but more work.

I have also noticed that when I try and upload the imaged for Twitter and Google+ in the Yoast panel nothing appears, I get the image URL in the facebook image upload box but they refuse to appear in the Twitter and Google+ image upload boxes

Maybe I’ll try and re install Yoast or something but it all seemed to go wonky with the latest wordpress/yoast updates

I have same problem with Facebook share featured image.

After I check several of my post, All my articles after 1 august not showing facebook featured images (empty box with just site name/URL), and for all articles previous can show featured images. This condition applies to sharing from sharing button each article page and from automatic sharing via jetpack plugin.

FYI,
I using this theme since 27 august and update Newspaper theme on 31 july and most of my articles posted by schedule with random hours (sometimes in am. or pm.). so there is only 2 articles which managed a facebook featured image after I used this theme.

Thanks for your help, its work for my site.

And again, for those coming to this thread… it’s not a very stable system in FB land for some things. We have found in particular prior to 10am PDT, it’s more likely to have issues with capture. Meaning, Monday at 8am PDT 8/3/15, no shares would capture from our main site. But at 11am they all worked.

Can you please help me check my site, my twitter and facebook pages are not showing images at all, i have tried everything and its still not working. someone please help
