Webmaster Errors on Template

Hello,

I have a number of structural errors showing up in Webmaster tools regarding my blog. I have updated WordPress as needed so it is not a matter of missing an update. I have had these issues for as long as the blog has been up. I haven’t done much blogging due to the errors, however I would really like to start using the template and blogging regularly. I like the design and did pay a good price for it. I had previously asked about this issue and did not receive any advise to lead to a resolution. I hope these issues can be resolved and would greatly appreciate some help. I have the following errors…

Server Error: blog/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/

Page not found: blog/search/

Structured Data > hentry (markup: microformats.org): /blog/author/*my user name*/ Missing Author
/blog/ Missing Author

Please let me know what I can do to correct these issues. Thank you for your time.

Jeni

Hi Jeni,

We’re sorry for the inconvenience. The first “Server Error: blog/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/” happens when you try to access the theme’s index.php file directly, usually it displays a Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_header() and it shouldn’t be picked up by google’s crawler.
You can find more info about this in this tread: https://forum.tagdiv.com/topic/fatal-error-3/ and add a redirect rule for it.

For blog/search/ and for /blog/author/*my user name*/ Missing Author
/blog/ Missing Author please update your theme to the latest version available now on themeforest: http://themeforest.net/downloads then check the webmaster errors again. Let us know how it goes and please use this updated guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-theme/ and make sure you backup your current theme/wp install and database also.

Hope this helps!
Thanks

Hi Lucian

Thank you for getting back to me. The first section has a link to a previous thread that in turn links to some additional code that needs to be entered into the template. I’m sorry, but I’m not clear on where exactly I need to find the code to replace. I have look around a bit and I’m really not sure where it is or where it should be.

In regards to you second paragraph about updating, do I need to purchase the program again? I don’t see any option to update.

Also more errors are showing up in Webmaster tools now sighting duplicate content.

Some very simplified directions would be very helpful. thank you.

Regards,

Jeni

The first item is a generally known issue of WordPress but not huge issue; it happens when somebody goes to the search location which is not normal.

Second, you can download new version of anything you purchase on ThemeForest from your account > downloads.

Hi Jeni,

You need to add a redirect for those case when the theme folder: blog/wp-content/themes/Newsmag/ is accessed directly and redirect it to the homepage. Try a redirect plugin for that like: https://wordpress.org/plugins/seo-redirection/ or similar.

You don’t need to repurchase the theme, it’s just an update so log into your themeforest account then go the downloads section, you find the latest theme version there, download it and update it using the update guide.

Let us know how it goes!
Thanks

Thanks for the advise. I was able to get the updated version installed, I was not installing it properly before. As far as errors go, the only thing I know to do is wait and see if Webmaster Tools shows whether things are improving.

Unfortunately since installing the latest version, I can’t seem to make any changes to color layout etc. When I installed the updated version, it changed the color of some of my accents, like “log in”, “recent posts”, “latest articles” to black which clashes with the color scheme. I have changed all the theme colors, saved the theme colors and refreshed the page and there is no change. I don’t remember that be too difficult in the past and I’m really not sure why it changed with the update.

I also tried to set the template to show summaries instead of entire posts on previous articles, when I save those settings and refresh the page there is no change.

Also, when I preview the page, it shows an about the author post at the bottom of the page and a comments field . I would really like these elements to show on the posted pages, but they don’t and in this particular case never did.

Please let me know where I should go to fix these items, Thank you in advance for your time.

Regards,

Jeni

Hi,

@colors issue – Do you use a cache plugin? try to clear the cache and see if the changes are active. Also check if the settings in Theme Panel are actually saving or they return to default when you get back in the Theme Panel area.

@excerpt (summaries) – i see you use the Homepage – with article list template , you have to edit the main page and change the module used, you use module 15 which displays the entire post, just chose one which comes with an excerpt – http://screencast.com/t/oL1fDyyg0G

@author box – you could create a similar author box and add it into the sidebar on the main page. Use html and custom css. It’s a blog and it would be strange to display an author box after each post on the homepage if the author is the same on all posts. if you refer to something else please provide more details.

Thank you!
