As the title explains, I am having issues with the “share on Facebook” functionality. If a post is shared, the Facebook posts includes the following information:
1) the category/categories of the blog-post
2) the title of the blog post (ok)
3) date (ok)
4) “Share on Facebook” as text in the Facebook post
5) “Tweet on Twitter” as text in the Facebook post
I cannot find anything in the documentation regarding this.
Can you help me
Rodolfo
Hi,
The theme doesn’t control the og: meta data, you will have to use a plugin for this. We recommend Seo by Yoast as it is tested and we use it also on our demo. Just install it and activate meta data – http://screencast.com/t/H9O9TGSP20o
We also have this guide in documentation – https://forum.tagdiv.com/facebook-share/
Thanks!
Hi I am having the same issues. I Installed Yost SEO and followed the directorions, however the problem still exists. My site is MainStRock.com. Thank you for your assistance.
@giovanni114
again, theme does not control what FB picks up – that is based on the OG data.
However you can use Facebook’s developer tools to “test” one of your posts for errors.
Note you cannot change something once FB captures it, but you can try to do a “refresh post attachment” from the share on your FB timeline.
Thanks Chris, however I find it difficult to believe that every single person using Newspaper 6 is experiencing this problem. As the first gentleman mentioned, he was able to get it to work – so we know there is a way. I just need to know what thay way is.
Hi,
Maybe you missed something with your settings. We created a guide for this exact situation so pl;ease read this topic: https://forum.tagdiv.com/facebook-share/
Thank you!
Thank you, however this does not tell how to remove the category. Could you kindly tell me where this setting is?
I guess my main question is where exactly do I need to go and do in Yoast so the categories do not appear in a social media share? I know I am new to this, but I truly appreciate your patience and guidance.
Hi,
Our theme does not have such an option so if you are looking for seo yoast configuration, you need to be looking at their official site and documentation: https://yoast.com/social-media-optimization-with-wordpress-seo-by-yoast/ as we cannot provide help for plugin settings.
Thank you!
Thank you however your reply results in the following questions

So this means this is the plugin you recommend to solve the issue of removing categories from appearing on social media shares. I mentioned that I installed your recommended plugin, however I still see the categories appearing on social media shares. Since this is the plugin you recommend for the theme, can you please simply show me where I have the option for categories to display, or not to display, on social media shares within this plugin you have tested and approve of? Nothing in any of the links provided explains how to do this. It is really a simple question I am asking.
Thank you for your time and help.
Hi,
There are no explanations to this as we are not the plugin authors. Our theme does not control the category tags appearing in the facebook share. We simply recommended the plugin, not provided a detailed guide on how to use it because plugin settings are not theme related. The plugin author is the one that can answer questions about the plugin settings.
You can find solutions online for this: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/facebook-shares-dateauthor-etc-as-part-of-blog or you can search through the plugin documentation as I pointed above, or contact the plugin author to see how to control the information that gets shared on facebook by using the open graph.
Thank you!
