Is there a way to display the author as a subtitle for the three smaller images on the right hand side as is the case for the larger image?

I assume it’s a bog grid 2 you are using. That block uses modules mx10 for the small thumbnails. This module does not have author and date added to it in the files as a design choice. You can add them in the file like so: http://screencast.com/t/AGNjYtwAo
Add this code like in the screenshot above:

Thank you for your quick response, the result is exactly what I am looking for! The grid I am using is Big Grid Style 4, adding the code snippet to td_module_mx10.php unfortunately had no effect, which module_mx file must I edit for Style 4? Is it also possible to add the author in the miniatures of Block 2 content (the smaller images at the bottom of my second screenshot)?

Big grid 4 already has author name and date to it: http://demo.tagdiv.com/newspaper/big-grid-4/ (module mx5)
Please check this option in the theme panel: http://screencast.com/t/mhSaWTrIs if it is set to off, author and date will not show in modules/blocks.
The grid you are using is ‘Big grid slide’ with a style 4 to it as the screenshot suggests. It uses the exact same module mx10. I have tested this again and it works for big grid slide as well: http://screencast.com/t/3bshNZ4saD
The small module in block 2 is module 6. It already has author in the code except it is commented. You can remove the comment and the author will be displayed.
