I am trying to figure out a way to create this 2×2 sidebar element on my home page. There really isnt a block or grid in Newspaper that does this that I can find. Just wondering if you had any suggestions. Thanks in advance.

Hello insidestl,
You should use a block 15 as sidebar, in Visual Composer to achieve as you wish. The result you should see here:
