1) Seo Yoast Plugin has been updated to version 3 and it change a lot the score. It doesnt recognise anymore images and H2 Subtitles when they are included inside shortcodes!!! My pages with good SEO score went 4-5 pages back on google search.
Do you have any idea about this? What should we do? Should we change again the structure of all pages ????
2) I want to change color on the plugin navigation buttons to be more visible when the mouse is NOT on them

Unfortunately, we have not tested the updated plugin of Seo Yoast with the latest version, because is too early to do this and we have no idea for the behavior of the theme with this updated version. I suggest you to wait until the updates will stabilize. Our developers try to find a solution for this and hopefully in a future update we will be able to implement these fixes.

I’m starting to believe the Yoast Seo Plugin is pure evil.
I don’t like the fact of it putting a rel canonical tag in the header for every post/page. Suppose your site is a small site of 60 posts and nothing is duplicated, so why have the rel canonical over used through the site? Read a great article on that. Could be irritating google with rel canonical overuse.
Also I’m not so trusting of the “wal-mart” of plugins. The bigger these companies/gurus get the more we are supposed to trust them? My income has sank since using yoast. I have it configured correctly too. Seen all the youtube videos and tutorials.
Looking into Greg’s High Performance as an alternate. Anyone else have suggestions? And btw, I’m numb to all the yoast subgurus that say they have it installed and no problems… not interested in those comments.
rel=canonical is good to have on every page/post — it identifies which URL is the actual one and is useful in various things used by Google.

We have not updated to the 3x version of Yoast being happy with the 2x branch. This seems to be a common refrain from the many users this month.
You cannot “irritate” Google with having a canonical tag on every page of your site; they expressly recommend doing this site wide. It also helps with pagination for archives, and with other pages on the web with similar headlines for the bot to better identify the right thread for what site, and various other things separate from the XML sitemap(s).
If you’re new to all of this Google has a huge repository of “official” wisdom, policies, and examples so you don’t need to rely on hearsay, junk WP article sites setup to sell affiliate links, or comments on forums (ahem).

Honestly I’m fed up with the slick marketers who are peddling these plugins and filling up the results in Google with positive reviews. It has not been a positive experience for me. Since I started using Yoast (and honestly this template) my income has sank 75%. My traffic has crashed. I refuse to believe it is this template. We have a right to use a nice template (and it is nice looking) and it’s up to Google to keep up with the code of these great new templates. I shouldn’t have to use a crappy Genesis template or whatever, so I’m sticking with Newspaper.
However I’m not so convinced Yoast is a good thing.
There is a pro and con to everything. it drives me crazy.

We are sorry you have problems with the Yoast plugin. Please understand that our hand was kind of forced into seo yoast as we have nothing to gain from it but so many people requested it. We had to test a seo plugin to work with our theme so we chose it as a recommended one due to it’s popularity as so many users requested yoast. On the other hand this is only a recommendation. We are not forcing anyone to use yoast, but because it is the only tested seo plugin with our theme, we recommend it to our users when they require a seo plugin. Unfortunately other seo plugins are not tested with our theme but this does not mean they will not work. We see people here on the forum use ‘all in one seo pack’ successfully. You can try out an alternative plugin. This is the beauty of wordpress. You have the liberty to chose. You can chose your theme and you can chose your plugins. Try out other plugins and get rid of the ones you hate.

I do agree on being a bit against the “bloated one plugin for all” concept. I used to hate YOAST. We used to build our own themes, or hack things like Canvas to add custom if/then and queries for meta data in our headers. Yoast simply made it easier for us to deploy and add some things more quickly. But it has gotten a bit big and bloated and every major version it crashes and burns. I certainly don’t think it’s the only game in town, but it does work for a lot of folks. Of course, we’re using some other things on some sites, just because they’re smaller and work as well.
As for canonical tags — the reason they are useful for many sites, is for things like the pending /amp/ protocol from Google rolling out in 2016 to speed up mobile pages separate from things like mod_pagespeed or http/2 (previously inclusive of mod_SPDY). So, for example mobile accelerated pages will soon be loaded as so:
yoursite.ooo/name-of-my-article/amp/ — in this context, the canonical tag is useful to identify the /amp/ version is not another page, but an alternate “version” of the same page.
In our case — I should have stated — we syndicate our news from some sites, and the canonical tag helps identify we did it first, and when we link back to the parent page from the child syndicator.
Also be aware that article on MOZ is from 2013, and going into 2016, the canonical tag is more mature now.
However, you are correct — if you have no duplicate versions of content, if you’re not dealing with malformed inbound links to your site like /site/name-of-article/?12hy6 — where Google is saying you have duplicate content for too many 404 errors — then you may not need it !!
In our case, it helps control inbound malformed links from external sites, and also because with modern social media you have a dozen sites inventing their own links to your website page; meaning FB, Twitter, LinkedIn, etc. all use a shortcode in some case to link to you, and the canonical can help identify that the URL on your site is the de-facto CORRECT one, even though it should be self evident being on your site.
I’m not arguing you need to have them, just saying they are useful and do NOT hurt inbound traffic in any way. Just like adding a default img tag, or an author tag, or other meta data; it’s read by those systems that have use for it, and other things ignore it.
