Can i activate the newspaper theme on sub domain for testing site?

The envato license specifies you can use the theme on a single end-product at a time –
– http://themeforest.net/licenses/standard
A sub-domain however can be used and the theme activated on it if it’s part of the same project. You can use the theme on this sub-domain, as long as it will not be a different website with different content. Just install it on the sub-domain and activate it as you normally would.

What if you have 3 subdomains that is all part of the main website?

You can use a license key for one single product. For the other domains/sub-domains, please consider buying another license key. There are two places for a license: one can be used for staging, and the other is for the live version of your product/sub-domain/website.
