Add Print and Email to Sharing Buttons

Hi guys, I’ve digging in to the forums and I couldn’t find an easy way to add this two functions. I know they’re too old but, some people still using it. I found a way to add LinkedIn in your guide: https://forum.tagdiv.com/add-a-new-linkedin-button/

I followed and it was very easy. I could be great if you give us a guide Print and Mail. Please, Please…I know you already received a lot of request about these topics.

Cheers,

In broad strokes you need to create a new button using the email icon and print icon from the icon font found in the theme folder, then add these two buttons to the module where the social buttons are built.

We created our own set of buttons in this way to entirely replace the TagDiv ones.

I plan to make a donation-ware plugin out of this at some point, but wer’e backed up here due to server crash Aug 5.

Basically copy the simple buttons CSS/code and change the icon and for print you need to use the common coding to launch PC/Mac print function found online.

These would be simple things for TagDiv to add as a toggle on/off, but adding too many things break the buttons onto two lines on mobile, etc., which is why it’s sometimes tricky.

If you don’t want to deep dive hacking the theme to do these (or hire a developer)…

Another option: use a plugin, turn off the TagDiv options, and get on with your life 🙂

TagDiv is likely not going to build out a whole tutorial on how to build custom buttons step by step as that isn’t really part of the theme, and “most” people don’t need that since you can simply email a page from any browser or mobile device without an on-page button, and same with print (CMD+P). So, they are nice, but really redundant as every web browser has those options “built in.”

So, not likely TagDiv will add them — put another way; anybody doing email or print of web pages already knows how to do that 🙂

(( I don’t work here, just some feedback. ))

Hi

Thanks @Chris for your answer.

@pacoesni
the tutorial for linkedin button was just a basic example about how can be added new buttons in theme’s options. As @Chris mentioned in its reply we can’t make a tutorial for any share button available as it’s not theme related. Instead you can se a plugin like Jetpack which have many buttons included and you don’t need any codeing to implement them on your posts: https://jetpack.com/support/sharing/

Thanks!

@Chris S, @Andre L I understand your points of views. But I believe that if we use less plugins and let the theme do the thing, it would be better. Jetpack is a great plugin, but it’s very fat. I’m not using it anymore. Anyway, I just say that the tagDiv Team take this as a suggestion, and add some kind of feature to add new social buttons to the sharing sections in future versions of Newsmag and Newspaper (I have both), at least in an easy way. I found 15 post from users requesting something similar. It’s just a suggestion.

Cheers,

Much better choices than JetPack, which I also personally refuse to use. Okay for a blog, but not for any larger website.

Hi @pacoesni

We have this on our todo list but I can’t promise anything with regard at a possible implementation. We have a very long list with feature requests and we have to choose carefully what feature will be added to the theme. I also agree with your point that it’s better to use less plugins and add more feature to the theme. But in time the theme will also became fat and this is not a good thing for many points of view. As themes developers we have to look at the end product from many points of view.

Thanks!
