AdGlare ad tags not showing up in staging environment

I’ve read in these forums that AdGlare is a good solution for running custom ads and using non-Adsense networks inside the Newspaper theme, however I’m unable to get the ads to show up. Currently the site is in staging, but I’ve tested in other websites that are live and the AdGlare tags show the ads as intended.

Questions:
1) Will those ads show up in a staging environment, or does the site need to be live?
2) Anyone else having similar issues and how did you overcome them?
3) Any other ad networks or ad systems (like DFP or AdGlare) that you’ve found to work well?

Thanks, and really need this to work. Adsense is not an option for our site because we sell advertising directly and rely on premium networks that pay better to backfill unsold inventory.

Best way to test anything is simply put the elements in a simple text widget (in text mode, not visual mode) in sidebar, and see if it works.

For shortcode, put into the actual template or appropriate element supporting that.

Check the support for the element you’re inserting — perhaps it won’t work on a non-resolving DNS lookup, etc. Not all web stuff works on a local PC/Mac setup, for whatever reason.

Thanks. Two of three ad spots are showing up in preview, but the third won’t even show the correct background color and padding…it’s just coming up as a thin line all the way across.
