Is there a way I can puts ads on the sides (margin) of the page and also increase margin size?

The only background ad option currently available in the theme is like this

Setting a background color or image will transform the website into the boxed version. The theme width when boxed is 1164px

When not boxed it is 1068px

This width cannot be changed, but maybe it will be helpful tom you if you would like to create a background ad to display on the sides.
Or maybe try a plugin that might have options to place ads like this. The Adrotate plugin could be a solution, as it is often mentioned here on the forum.

Thanks. If I edit the css on my child theme to decrease the theme width, then is changing td-container enough or more is necessary? Will this not impact size in mobile screens?

Changing the theme width is not recommended. All the elements on the page will be affected if the fixed width is modified. This is what would happen if the width is decreased with just 1px for example

Custom CSS code can be used in the child theme stylesheet. You can try and make experiments if you want to. Or use the theme panel Advanced CSS sections for specific devices.
