Most of my posts have pagination on them to split large posts up into smaller posts and i use the theia post slider to make the prev/next buttons look a bit better (this still uses the <!–nextpage–> shortcode), but i can’t seem to figure out how to get adsense to display above the pagination buttons
any ideas ?

Unfortunately we did not tested this plugin with our theme so I cannot make any suggestions, sorry!
Using the default post pagination, if you add the code in article bottom ad, it will appear on all your pages above the pagination – http://screencast.com/t/PORrLG4PXj
You may ask about this at the plugin author as he knows how it works and maybe he will provide a solution.
