Adverts load first with white page? Not content or css.

Hello guys,

My website loads with adverts and a white blank background.

This is a picture of my website speed test on GTmetrix recently:

I’m using speed plugins:
– Speed Booster Pack (by Tiguan)
– tagDiv speed booster

Any help? Thank you!

Likely a bad setting in the Speed Booster Pack. Try disabling that and revisit your site.

It’s still happening after disabling the plugin and clearing the cache :/

Do you think it’s the tagdiv plugin?

Might be. But of course the theme works perfectly with that plugin. So, it would likely be another plugin conflicting. This is also more common with child themes since the CSS is being “redirected” to the parent. Which is why I stopped using child themes couple of years back. Annoying as heck.

You could obviously try disabling the plugins then reactivate them one by one, to see what is doing what.

There are also a couple of good plugins you can run to see which of the plugins is using the most resources or slowing things down (I posed this couple of times this month, not sure – you’d have to search for that … if this were my forum I would probably add a list of “useful plugins for running a WP site….”).

Thank you.

I’m not sure how ‘child themes’ work, so i don’t touch it. To disable child themes, do i just delete the theme (in Appearance – Themes) called ‘Newspaper Child theme’? No code editing?

Thanks 🙂

Hi
yeah. The only reason to use a child theme is if you plan on hacking things and don’t want to re-hack them on theme updates, which I actually prefer to do.

If you look at the theme activation page, you would only be running the “child” theme if you expressly activated it. If you didn’t do that and are running the “parent” theme, then this has no impact on what you’re doing at all.

Meaning, the child theme doesn’t work automatically, only if you expressly activate it from the WP theme panel. If you’re not using it, you could delete it, but if you ARE using it, you would want to switch back to main (parent) theme before deleting it.

For info on what child themes are all about, the WP codex/docs

Thanks for the help @Christopher, is it possible you could send me an email? I’d like to discuss something privately with you, if that’s okay? 🙂
