AMP Menu and Some Minor Bugs

Just for the feedback, AMP Plugin is great and seems fastest, but there are some major bugs such as:

1. Menu from amp pages is missing.
2. Social sharing icons are too small.
3. No idea how amp ads work. Do we have to fill in our custom adsense made ads in the theme panel>amp>custom ad? Or the google adsense fills out these spots themselves?
4. How can we remove featured image from amp pages?
5. The search button is broke, it redirects to mobile page with some “-” search result.
6. Dropcaps are not working perfect, the letters are inside a colored box.

Apart from that, the post-editor is missing the text-editor, i mean where is the place where i used to add dropcaps and quoteboxes??

And to the ones who have been complaining about amp not on home page, well amp is meant for posts that appear on google, the rich articles we write. There is definitely no need of amp on homepage, unless you want a really stripped off version of your homepage to be shown to your visitors.(speed is always not best at some places)

Same problems here. No menu…

And why can’t I see the Google ads in the desktop browser version, but I can see them in the mobile browser? https://www.leyendasdetoledo.com/siete-rutas-o-visitas-guiadas-que-no-te-debes-perder-en-toledo/amp/

Thanks.

I can’t see in the desktop browser ONLY responsive Google ads… If you choose the option “fixed height -100px” the ads show in desktop and mobile browser. Why?

I want to add a menu in new versiyon (8.8)

@leytol amp pages are meant for mobiles only, not for desktop browsers.

I know, but on many occasions there are AMP links that are also shown in desktop browsers…

4. On /wp-content/plugins/td-amp/templates/css find “.amp-wp-article-featured-image{display:none;margin:0}” and change to “.amp-wp-article-featured-image{display:none;margin:0}”

Hi,

1. AMP pages do not display a menu, it is not missing as a bug. That is similar to Yoast website, which is leading among SEO solutions
https://yoast.com/social-media-optimization-with-yoast-seo/amp/
This is subject to change, that means that in the future adding a menu may be considered.

2. A decision was made regarding the social styles leading to the current implementation. The style cannot be changed at the moment as it can be seen in the AMP settings, options to select more styles may be introduced in a later plugin update.

3. We will try to improve the AMP documentation as soon as possible regarding it’s settings. Basically for Adsense ads you have to enter the required ad parameters in the provided fields and that is it
https://www.screencast.com/t/7EhwRKCzaHwq
For custom ads (like simple banners) you have to enter the code in the field below
https://www.screencast.com/t/eVwS9GzH

4. The featured image cannot be removed from the post page, there is no setting for that at the moment. The plugin may receive a setting to allow you to disable the featured image on AMP pages, in a future update. If this is required for you now, you could edit the template file from the plugin
https://www.screencast.com/t/vh9jpXtBJoWM

5. The search link is not broken, it will lead to the search form on your website. It will be an empty search page
https://www.screencast.com/t/7oi9UxzK
If you were to search for a term it is like this
https://www.screencast.com/t/ZHZIii30T1
That “-” is a delimiter between search term and “search results”.

6. I have tested all the dropcap styles in an AMP enabled post, these are the results
https://www.screencast.com/t/Qo6smmCGvk
The styles are displaying normally from what I can see, please provide some more details about the issues you are having with the dropcaps on AMP.
Dropcaps can be set here – https://www.screencast.com/t/wLrqwUrP8p5
Quotes here – https://www.screencast.com/t/mCQBFDksVcCu

Pages can be used with AMP if needed, the pages must be created similar to posts however (without page builders). There is an option to enable AMP on pages in the theme panel settings.

Please note that all suggestions are noted, and all identified issues with the AMP plugin will be fixed as soon as possible.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback. So far, i have rolled back to non amp by simply deactivating the plugin. However, some posts were already converted to amp in serps.

Those using amp and trying to revert back, please do not use 301 redirection. Let the 404 error come, google itself will recognise your website is no more amp. Creating a 301 will tell google its not amp and will just confuse search engines and hence, loss of seo.

P.s- i believe amp is not really good for the hardwork writers do on their blogs. It will strip off your website, and the revenue share is cut off greatly (since amp ads don’t really have higher ctr). Moreover, since you lose page navigation, bounce rate will definitely increase. Rest your choices. 🙂
