Of recent, may be due to google update, I’m getting lots of 404 errors on tags w.r.t. amp version. Whereas the normal version of tag is working fine. When it comes to amp, the search results of tag are giving 404 errors
Kindly update me on how to solve this problem.
For example check the following two links:
1) https://www.homenaturalcures.com/tag/dry-skin/amp/
2) https://www.homenaturalcures.com/tag/dry-skin/
The first one (amp version) will give a 404 error whereas the second one will display the posts which have the tag “dry-skin”

Regarding the issue, it is unusual that you are getting those reports for tag pages. Our AMP plugin will not affect the tag pages in any way, or should this be expected. It applies only for post pages

Tag pages do not have an AMP variant, so why would Google report errors with AMP for them is beyond me. Posts will have the AMP link in the source

But tag pages are in no relation to this. The tag page URL and /amp parameter will lead to a 404 page since it does not exist or mentioned anywhere Google can access it and produce errors.

I’ve already requested guidance from wordpress.org and they have informed that “link filtering is being done by amp plugin” (https://wordpress.org/support/topic/404-errors-in-tags/#post-10552064)

Since our plugin was introduced this is the first time I see such issues. There have been no other reports from the many users that have installed and are using our AMP plugin as we speak.
So it would be safe to say that the problem is specific to your case. We will try to help you.
What exactly do you mean by “may be due to google update”? There was no issue before that point? What did you do before the errors started to happen?
Could you analyze more where you are getting these errors and provide more details about them?

Google would only expect AMP if this is specified like this, in the page source
– https://www.ampproject.org/docs/fundamentals/discovery
The tag pages don’t have these required elements, so it would be impossible that Google detects tag pages with AMP available.
This problem of tag started in the month of June 2018. I don’t remember the exact date. Since I started giving 301 redirections for these 404 errors, initially I thought it may be due to google crawl error and as well as since I was changing my posts urls, I thought it was natural for these to come.
Since these happened in some of my new posts I got suspicious and initially thought may be due to google algorithm change. If that is the case, it should happen to others too, but that is not the case. So, it is specific to my website.
If required, I’m ready to create a wp admin entry for you, so that you can help me out to come out of this mess.
At present, I’ve stopped giving 301 redirects to these tag/amp 404 errors.
Google will scan what it finds, it won’t make up nonexistent URLs by itself or add AMP parameters in this case for tag pages for no reason. There would be no Google algorithm that does that. It seems as if the tag pages are treated as post pages.
Somewhere and for some cause your website is generating those URLs which lead to 404 since they do not exist anywhere. They are found by Google if they appear as 404.
Users would have no way of reaching the AMP tag pages however, unless they manually enter /amp in the URL of a tag page, there is no purpose to do that however.
Where are these errors seen? Maybe you can find where they are coming from, the URLs. What modifications did you do to the post URLs or permalinks?
We could take a look, but I don’t know if we can get to the bottom of this. I don’t know what we could do, from the theme and plugin view. The modifications you did before this started likely caused these problems.
