Doing a quick search today with https://validator.w3.org/nu/ i see that link rel=apple-touch-icon is no longer valid

The w3 validator unfortunately does not provide accurate results anymore.We have stopped trusting it altogether. Please use google’s structure data testing tool You can test any major site you can think about and you will see the w3c validator providing errors for each one.

You might try, just for reference purposes, validators for the modern semantic web:
The old W3C checker only works on legacy HTML/XHTML docs, and not modern HTML5/semantic elements.
