Are all template creating duplicate content for search engines?

Hi,

1) The articles listed under Author, Search, Tags, Archives, Category templates are all considered as duplicate content for search engines?

2) If on a same page I have the same article at two different places (e.g. once in the side bar and once in the footer), is this also considered as duplicate content?

It’s only duplicate content if the ‘full text’ is on two pages and not linked to a canonical story. Google has some good explanations on that, but I don’t have the link. Use LA Times home page as one example. Having headline and excerpt where it links to the actual story, is why the content on the home page doesn’t matter so much for SEO as it’s temporary, where as page being linked to should be permanent.
