I would like the Author meta / date to appear at the start of selected pages (similar to how posts do) and the author box to appear at the end. I only want this for selected pages as my about, contact etc are also pages.
Ideally I don’t want to have to manually insert on every page using Tag Div composer (I looked at this but seemed time consuming).

Unfortunately the manually way in the pages is the only ones, maybe there are some plugins and you can set the page id on them.

The pages were not originally made using the composer, so I can’t set columns at the top and bottom easily. Shortcodes would be much easier.

In pages built with the tagDiv composer you can place author boxes

The elements of the tagDiv composer can be used as shortcodes. So for example configure an author box in a new page as you want

Then use the shortcode where needed – http://prntscr.com/lnihch
The tagDiv composer has to be active in order for the shortcodes to work.
An element to display the author and publish date does not exist for pages. Displaying this information on top of the page would be possible if it was in the page content, or maybe in the page template files the theme uses

Only on posts the author name and publish date will be displayed. Sorry for any inconvenience.
