Even though the article is assigned with an author (supposedly properly assigned) and the module option of “showing author name” is activated (I tried with two different modules to make sure it wasn’t a module problem), author name is not showing up.

It should work well when you enable the option show author.
Please check if you complete the field author name for your user in Dashboard -> Users.
Make a test and deactivate ALL plugins except tagDiv ones, also if you are using a cache plugin, deactivate it, clear all cache and try again.
