Auto Load Bugs and problems

First, thanks for trying, but the new auto load feature has a lot of bugs and needs fixing:
1) The auto load feature does not work on the Mobile theme at all. Auto load function not working. My suggestion is always think of mobile strategy first.
2) The auto load on normal single posts takes tooooo much time to load. This is just killing the experience. And we have a pretty quick server.
3) When you scroll down, you end up in the footer, and the next article has loaded above it. So user has no idea the article has loaded above the footer.
4) Auto load does not work on smart lists. Each list item should load as a scroll up. But it does not. If there is a way then please let us know.
5) At times the auto load function does not start, it keeps showing the load icon, if it loads another articles, then article immediately goes away. Some bug, does not let the next article load. Happened to us a lot of times. It also happens when you scroll back up, the loaded article evaporates.

A good example of infinite scrolling and auto loading is – https://scroll.in/article/912444/these-mouth-watering-food-podcasts-tell-you-the-stories-behind-the-things-we-eat
(they are also on wordpress)

I’m also having an issue with the infinite load & sticky sidebars – when combined, only the initial post’s sidebar is sticky.

PS – As for the timing issues, I think just having it begin loading the next post at the end of the Content Body rather than the end of the entire page would help a ton.

Agreed, the loading of the next article should start as soon as a reader reaches 2/3rd or 3/4th of the page.

Couple of other bugs:
1) When the next articles is auto loaded, the pageview count in Google Analytics is not increasing. (getting something like this in the same page – /news/is-this-how-the-new…like/?tdb_action=tdb_ajax on GA). The pageview should increase as soon as the reader goes to the next auto load article.

The reason why websites use infinite load or auto load, is that it increases pageviews as well as the time spent on the website. Which is not happening with the current set. QZ,com is also great example of super infinite scroll/auto load.

2) Sticky side bar as HallmanDigitalMediaLLC pointed is also an issue.

Am sure you overwhelmed with auto load querries. Since this is a feature more sought after and long been awaited :).

Hi,

We are aware that there are issues with the auto load feature, we will try to fix them as quickly as possible.

1. It will not work on mobile if the mobile theme is active, this is true.

2. There will be an option added to be able to control how soon the next post loads, I can’t provide specific details about how this will work exactly. This should provide a smoother experience.

3. This should not happen if the option mentioned at point 2 will be added. The post will be loaded before the user reaches the footer.

4. Please provide some more details about this, what exactly is happening. I will try to recreate it and if there is an issue I will add it on the list.

5. We could investigate this on your website if possible. Post a link to where this happens and we will take a look.

The issue with the sticky sidebars is under investigation currently. Seems that starting from the second post it will not function correctly. It will be fixed.

From what I tested the post view count is increasing for the posts that are auto loaded. The count goes up. Let me know about followups to these questions.

Thanks

For 1, may we suggest a Previous – Next navigation for the mobile theme then? It has the links, but those are not easy for mobile users to find. Something like the “Next Article” at the bottom of the mobile theme at https://www.slashfilm.com/captain-marvel-tv-spot-ready/. You can also slide to the next and previous article by just touching the screen.

Thanks Simion, am sure you guys are trying your level best to iron out the bugs.

In my opinion the auto load on mobile theme was more important as world over major traffic source now is mobile. If it can be incorporated in that, it will be awesome.

Till then if we turn off the mobile plugin, would the auto load function work on mobile?

For points 3 to 5, I will make a gif or take do a screen recording for you see.

We are keeping a close eye on GA and how auto load is helping page views, yesterday the pageview count was not going up, instead in the same view, it was just showing another loaded page in GA. Will recheck again and come back to you.

Thanks

If the mobile theme is inactive it will work. I should mention that the mobile theme will be subject to modifications in coming updates, can’t get into details at the moment.

The video you made explains the issue perfectly. With the option that will be added this will be avoided, the next post will load sooner.
So for example when being at the middle or to the end of the currently viewed post, the next one will load. I think it will be a setting and you can choose how soon it will load.

That’s all great news, Simion! Thank you.
