Is there any easily-workable way to achieve a narrower content width so that my background image ad wrap shows on most desktop screen sizes? I see this Newsmag demo (http://demo.tagdiv.com/newsmag_fashion/category/tagdiv-fashion-today/tagdiv-chicago-show/) has a content width of 1021px.

Theme’s layout relays on a fixed width by 1068px and all blocks, modules, rows, columns are made starting from that value. If you decrease the width’s value these elements will be affected and their layout must be re-designed. This is a very complex task which involve many custoizations in theme’s core files and also many tests in order to be achieved.
We can’t offer customization services at the moment so if you really need this and you’re not aware of the steps you need to take in this regard please consider hiring a developer or a freelancer to do this for you.
