Couple of questions, firstly if we design at 1920×1080 will this automatically resize for screens on lower resolutions, or will it miss part of the ad?

The theme and theme elements are fully responsive, it will adapt to each device. There will be no issues of the kind.
So you would like to place a background ad and allow it to be displayed on top of the website, that would be possible if you push the header down

A general recommendation for the background ad size in general, would be a to use a fullHD image (1920x1080px). That would be sufficient.

Hi Simon,
I seem to be having an issue with placement, as you can see here the ad isn’t fully fitting into the background and instead is just sitting small and centre behind the content.

Also, is their a way to turn off the ad for any device that isn’t a desktop. Obviously tablets and phones it will not display correctly so don’t want it to show?

It seems that maybe you are not uploading the full size of the background image, but a thumbnail. Make sure you are setting the full size
