but the solution doesn’t work in the newest version of newsmag. Could you help me with that one?

Okay, style 7 has the banner below the logo. I would like it the other way round (or rather my client would).
So this brings me back to style 1 and how to put the banner above the logo – like this:
Topmenu
Banner (930×180)
logo
menu
instead of
topmenu
logo banner
menu

Did you try the provided hack provided by Lucian, starting by editing the style 7 file?

You have to edit the file per his example by moving the block of code to the desired location in the appropriate file for style 7; there is no theme setting to do what you want.
Would love to see how that works for your site?

Worked like a charm. Had to do a little styling to let the logo float left.
