BBpress forums issue

When I activated bbpress and create all forums as I wanted I ran into a problem that’s got me pulling me hair out: Child forums are not showing and neither are the topics in the child forums.
I have tried everything and concluded that it is the theme that’s causing the problem because in other themes they show just fine.

1. I first deactivated all plugins except bbpress and those related to it
then I tested the forums and still they didn’t show properly
2. I then deleted the child forum and created another one and moved the topic to that new one. That didn’t work.
3. I changed themes, tried tweenty eleven and everything worked, then I tried another theme just to be sure and that worked too.
4. Activated all plugins again and repeated the process and they worked like I wanted.

Then I activated Newspaper theme and even tried the child theme and then all went wrong again: I can’t see my child forums nor the topics in them. What should I do? When buying this theme, one of the reasons I did buy it was because of the bbpress part of things. Please help. My url is eslchronicle.com/forums

Hi,

I’ve tested this and found the same behavior like you’ve experienced. We are sorry for the inconvenience, I’ve added this on out todo list for further investigations and we will try to find a fix for this as soon as possible.

Sorry for the inconvenience and thanks for reporting this!

Hi Moses,

I was just facing the same problem. I searched around in the code, and a found a php line commented out in the bbpress files of the theme. The file name is content-single-forum.php and can be found in the bbpress folder. Uncomment line 79
bbp_get_template_part( ‘loop’, ‘forums’ );
and things should start working 🙂

Though I still don’t know why it was commented out in the first place. Maybe someone can shed some light on the matter

Hi,

We made a certain style in the beginning and some elements were disabled, in version 5 we will remove this style and we will add only css styling for Bbpress.

Thank you, Emil G.

Hi ehmad92,

Thanks for your response. I looked at the line in my BBpress version (the latest one) and it is not commented out. So I am stuck again.

I am certain now that it’s definitely theme related. And I really can’t afford to wait until when this is fixed because we are trying to launch the site in a few weeks. I am willing to try anything

By the way, would downgrading to a previous BBpress version work at this point? I would like to do that if it works until a fix a found

Thanks

ehmad92,

YOU ARE MY HERO. I was applying your solution to BBpress itself. I logged back on this morning and checked to see if this line was commented out on the theme files and voila, there was the problem. It was indeed commented out and when I took out the comment. The forums showed.

Thank you soooooo much. After days of agonizing over this it is solved.

Again
thanks

Hi,

The theme Bbpress style files are included in the ../Newspaper/bbpress folder. If you delete the folder Bbpress will return to default (all features will be enabled) but the css style will be lost. We will fix this on v.5.

Thank you, Emil G.
