Big Issue with the Theme

Hello,

I have a big concern regarding the theme…being a “genius” I’ve installed a version of Newspaper6 available for free online, so that I can check it out and see if I like it or not before I purchase it. I decided that I love it so I went ahead on themeforest and purchased the theme and started working on my site. I’ve deleted the old one and installed the new, original one. I am concerned for the safety of my site…in case maybe something is still running in the background. I’ve scanned everything for malaware and nothing came up. I know I was retarded not to test the dummy theme on my localhost, but i was too lazy to set it up.

the website is: http://tryhealthier.com

Cheers,
Vlad

Hi,
Unfortunately as the other version was definitely a pirated one (there is no free version of the theme), the code could have been altered so the best thing to do is to reset your database using the wp-reset https://wordpress.org/plugins/wordpress-reset/ and delete your old wordpress instalation just to be on the safe side. Then you need to start over with a fresh database and fresh wp-install.
Thank you!

Is there a way to save the settings/work etc? Also is there a way to detect any suspicious code lines in the website’s source?

Hi,
You can compare the code from the theme you had before with the code in our theme (they must be the same version of the theme ) You can use a tool like: https://forum.tagdiv.com/compare-theme-files-winmerge-tutorial/
You can save your work by doing a wp back-up: https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_Backups
Thank you!

And of course worth noting, “don’t use pirated software…” 🙂

Thanks for the answers, I will compare the theme files code. Can I check somehow the other files from the server besides the theme files? There are many files there I don’t know what each of them do, so I wouldn’t want to break anything…just to check them for virus or something… This is because I wouldnt want to get my hosting account suspended in case I have mallaware in my files 🙂

Hi
You can probably do a virus/mallware scan with anti-virus software. I think you should ask your host about it as they will probably have a better answer on how to properly do it.
Thank you!
