I am using a block 21 for the newspaper theme. I have filter 5 categories on the block, let’s call them, “news”, “world news” , “fashion” , “gadget” and “travel”.
Is there a way to set my category default to “news” instead of showing all categories?

Well if you only want to show one category in the block you should only filter 1 category . DO not add 5 categories, but just the one you want. If you are not going to show posts from the other categories, why add them at all to the block? Our theme will show posts from all of the specified categories in the sorting option you choose from block settings. I said I would like to set as DEFAULT on the news highlight but still be able to show 5 filters, So for example when I refresh the page, It will highlight news instead of showing everything and the user can click on the selected filters.
So I take it that I can’t do that?

You can create something similar using a tab element like so: http://screencast.com/t/lP7jxkKS and have different categories set in each tab separately. The first tab is the default one that will show so you can filter the news category in the first tab and go from there.
