To achieve that are required some php modifications in theme files, not only css code. First you will need to define a new thumb size in td_config.php: http://screencast.com/t/4UhameCTw This step is required because the current thumbs are to small to be displayed on a full width row. Also you will need a new module and define a new case in td_block_5.php which will display only two articles in block: http://screencast.com/t/688zj06B
Please consider that this is a very complex task which involve many customizations and very good coding skills. If you can’t do it yourself my advice is to find someone to help you or hire a freelancer to do this for you as we can’t offer any customization services at the moment.
Also you can use big grid 2 which already have a layout with two colons.
