Hello.
I need to filter posts by a custom taxonomy value or a custom field value. (any recommendations or some ideas on how to implement this?) we are ok with writing some code.

But note that by default there is no taxonomy filter, any filtering will work only with categories. You will have to make modifications to the theme files that may not work/or lost after a theme update.
This functionality may be taken into consideration for implementation in the future, I cannot say for sure however. Sorry for any inconvenience.
