I might have missed it somewhere in the files, but what I did find (in the bootstrap-modal.js file) is Bootstrap v2.3.1. Is that the version Newspaper uses?
I ask because Bootstrap is now at v3.0.2 with some major changes to mobile friendliness, among other differences between versions 2 and 3. I haven’t run into any problems yet with other bootstrap plugins conflicting with whatever version is in Newspaper, but as I’m about to buy a new highly updated gallery plugin from Envato, I’m concerned about the version.
So…
1. What version of Bootstrap does Newspaper v4.2.2 use?
2. If v4.2.2 uses Bootstrap v2.x, when will you upgrade to v3.x?

I thought the theme works on a modified/custom version of Bootstrap 3. However worth noting that BS3 is not compatible with Internet Explorer prior to IE9 at all, which is why some still use 2.3x (which we do on our business site actually, so the large existing userbase on WinXP can still see the pages at all vs a mangled list of bullet lists).
So, keep that in mind; some people do want compatibility with IE6,7,8, which BS3 has ZERO support for.
And of course remember the theme is not built on the “full everything on” version of Bootstrap but custom version which anybody can build out based on choosing components at the dev portal.
That might not help, just food for thought on this topic.

Yeah but who wants to think that hard on it? lol
I have yet to find anyone, outside of office and corporate networks, still running <= IE9, even with XP, which is fine because FF and Chrome work on those systems. Let’s call this the giant label on my forehead that says I hate IE and do not support it for my users. Some of the best technological minds in the world at Microsoft, and they’re still spending too much time trying to increase market share instead of making the most of a market that refuses to cave.
Come to think of it, I’ve already come across 3 premium plugins on Envato that I bought for use with Newspaper, and bootstrap was the source of the conflict. Wasted $68 already so trying not to make that $90.
I know Newspaper uses some of BS3 based on the viewport meta tag use, but that isn’t everything. I need to know what version Newspaper customized to really answer this one, I think. The plugin author has some questions on it as well, basing it off of the 2.3.1 version of BS, so we’ll see how much it matters from his point of view too.

I know lot of folks stuck on IE8 because they got that with Win7, didn’t update to IE9, and now when they try the IE10/11 upgrader/updater it crashes and they have to roll back. (ahem, my mom…. finally got her to use Chrome v37!)
But yeah, IE11 is pretty nice. But BS3 takes the “mobile first, damn the old folks” approach, which I admire, but not practical for a lot of people “yet.”
Anybody still using IE6 needs to join the future! 🙂
Had no idea about that issue. Come to think of it, lost my primary hard drive last week and had to install win7 64bit on my secondary and then again on the new HDD that arrived Sunday. Updates ran and IE is at 11 (Windows copy is from 2 years ago) and had no issues. I’ve yet to so much as select recommended settings for POS11, but that’s covered already.
I wouldn’t even hesitate to stop calling it “mobile first” since that’s not what it is anymore. That concept started with smartphones and has grown to include all sorts of tablets that act as much like a computer as anything but a computer can. Resolution is the issue, of course.
I’ve been blocking IE6 browsers from loading my sports site since 2008 lol The cast of Hackers called, they want their browser back.
Most annoying thing for me with BS3, is the fact with “mobile first” approach (their term, not mine), is that when pages reduced to iPad retina portrait, the presumption is “no sidebar” which I find necessary for a lot of things like, oh, a newspaper site. A lot of BS3 devs just run with that, and annoying as heck on iPad for me.

I’ve noticed that when checking responsiveness in my browser that the sidebar bounces around a little weird near tablet resolution. I guess BS3 devs want to increase the trend of off the map resources from just menus to include sidebars too. Not a bad idea actually. But must be a pain to deal with until that’s done. **Hint Hint** tagDiv
