Can't even get started

It seems to me I may have made a big mistake investing in Newspaper.

I cannot make even fundamental changes like adding pictures on my Homepage, or changing the type style of my site Title.

This suggests that when it comes to things like adding posts and organising the site into different sections I am going to be stuffed.

The language used on these forums is completely over my head – I have no idea what a lot of the references mean, and when I see coding suggested….well, that’s full-scale panic time for me.

What I need is a step by step visual guide that assumes no knowledge of coding or buildlng a website from scratch. If that is not possible, I need to find a way of getting my money back and looking elsewhere.

Hey Paul. I think you have to try reading documentation from start. Any theme on themeforest requires and suggests reading its documentation. Thats a no-brainer, and thats a rule!

Newspaper theme is very advanced theme, very very much. It is mainly designed for news portal type websites, but it can easily be used for multipurpose websites, super flexibile.
You can easily buld any kind of website with it.
In my opinion this theme is the most complete and easiest theme available on themeforest.
You just have to read its documentation.

If you are not familiar with wordpress and its advanced use, then you should maybe hire someone to do things for you. That will save you time and money, time=money.

I hope you didn’t give up – I bought the theme two years ago – panicked – got a refund.

Then bought it again!

But I had always loved it from afar you see -I researched and researched while using my other theme -and with GoDaddy I had a ‘staging environment’ it’s a simple clone of your site where you can play with changes – I changed the theme there and found it actually is easy to do a simple set up. Then copied it back to live. All easy is you relax and research. I still don;t know much and plan to improve the rest of the capabilities as time goes on.

The customs CSS study isn’t necessary yet – but you’ll soon see it’s just a copy/paste thing if you do take any customisation ideas from the forum. The theme is as advanced as you want it to be – but it makes your site fly in loads of ways.

Only just seen your message, for which thanks! I would have been very encouraged if the email follow-up had worked!

But I didn’t give up. Instead I got someone in Slovakia to customise some coding. It’s been a slow haul, but I expect to launch next week.

My problem is, I read the documentation, and it’s like another language. It just kind of assumes you know something about building websites, a bit about coding, and uses language that leaves me scratching my head.

Now I kind of know how most things work, and I’m playing around with what I’ve got and getting more confident.

It is a brilliant theme for making your site look super-professional. So I’m pleased I stuck with it.

Another great resource is several books that explain how WordPress works, how web design works, how the web actually works, etc.

Also plenty of websites, including the main WordPress.org documentation which is well written for “newbies.”

Don’t give up — but it is a learning process. 🙂
