I’ve downloaded what I think is the 9.7 version of Newspaper but when I try to deactivate Newspaper 9.01 in my wordpress site there’s no option on the theme screen. When I upload the new files to the theme section I get an error message that the files already exist. So now I’m in a loop. Any solutions?

Hello,
In such cases you need to make sure you clean your install of any at all version of the newspaper theme. Access your site using the file manager on your host or via ftp and delete any at all newspaper theme that is present in your wp-content/themes folder
Then upload the new theme version via WordPress. Make sure you update the plugins as well after you install the new theme version.
