Category Based Ads and a Social Counter suggestion

Hi:

Is there any chance to display different set of ads for each category?. I Haven’t found a way.
In my adsense account i used to have different codes for different categories.

And a suggestion for Social Counter: Please add LinkedIn, for professional and business blogs LinkedIn is a MUST.

I think you can create custom sidebars for different categories and drop in ads like banners that way.

For AdSense, they serve ads based on the user being tracked; so YOU cannot specify unique ads yourself per category of page… (as you can with Amazon, for example); they serve ads dynamically. So, if somebody likes music and is on your music index, chances are good they will see music-related ads.

Well yes Christopher you can create different sidesbars for different categories but on the Theme panel you can create only 3 custom ads. So you could not use the Ad box in the sidebar although you could use a text box and copy the different codes. The downside is I don’t think Google would made then responsive by default.

And although you are right about Google serving the ads dynamically its always better segment the different channels for advertisers to target.

You can use Google’s “responsive” ad codes in the sidebar text box. We do that here 🙂

And YES, you are correct, it is useful to segment not only “position” for ROS, but specific category ad units. We do that on some of our sites (one of which was launched in 1999), to segregate music and books unit pages/categories.

The text box works fine with Google’s new “responsive ad unit” …

Marius or Lucian may have “official” answer on how to possibly do ad boxes by category, which I would assume might be done by creating more ad unit elements from your functions.php file to load into the admin panel.
