The shop base page shows ALL my items in my store on that page.
Instead, how can I show Category pictures (for example, a picture of a mug) and then have that category picture link to another page that lists all of the products of that category (for example, all of the mugs that were assigned that category).

Uncheck the multi option in order to have a link of the category product page.
