I’m trying to create a category page, but am not seeing it in the documentation. I assume that when I create categories that The Newspaper theme creates the page automatically.

Am I missing something in the documentation?

That will be the case yes. When you create a category it will automatically have category page. It will show up in the theme panel

Clicking on it’s name there will lead to the respective category page.

The offending plugin is All in One SEO Pro (https://semperplugins.com/all-in-one-seo-pack-pro-version/?loc=sp_homeproduct)
This is the error message found in the error log: [16-Aug-2018 16:32:29 UTC] PHP Fatal error: ob_start(): Cannot use output buffering in output buffering display handlers in /home/mrrogersvps/public_html/mrrwebdev01.org/wp-content/plugins/wordpress-seo/frontend/class-frontend.php on line 1820
Do I need to contact the plugin author, or is this a theme problem?

Do you maybe have both Yoast SEO and All in one SEO plugins active? From what I can find online that was the case for some other users with the same issue

Removing All-in-one SEO plugin fixed this issue.
