I have an issue with a 404 when you try to go to any of the category pages beyond the first page. We’re using a custom permalink structure that is /%category%/%postname%/ and here is an example of the error. http://www.vbjusa.com/news/page/2/
Is there anything you can suggest?

Please deactivate all plugins, leave only Visual Composer active, also clear cache and purge your files if you use CDN and check again if you still have this issue. If you don’t have it anymore activate your plugins one by one to see if there is a plugin conflict.
Also please make sure that you use the latest version of the theme(4.6.2) and the plugins that come with the theme files are updated. If you need to update follow this guide, use FTP method – https://forum.tagdiv.com/how-to-update-the-theme/ also update the plugin that come with theme form /plugins folder – https://forum.tagdiv.com/update-the-visual-composer-plugin-wpbakery/

I’m testing on my staging site: http://vbjusa.staging.wpengine.com/ and have updated the theme, deactivated all plugins except wpbakery, and cleared the cache. The issue is still unresolved.
Did you try it with the default wordpress theme ?

I have checked your site again and found that you have this issue only for parent categories as for subcategories pages the pagination works fine: http://screencast.com/t/2v5kiIj2T
I also checked with that custom permalink /%category%/%postname%/ and did not found any issues but I have this permalink for parent category page – http://screencast.com/t/E7rlKVaY1ioH so please make sure that you resave your permalinks and if this doesn’t work you can try to fins a plugin to help you set custom permalinks.
