I don’t know if this is a theme-related issue, or a adsense-related issue, but certain adsense ads which load script from http sources onto our https pages cause a severe disturbance in theme function.
The source of this issue is without a doubt on behalf of Adsense, which details full SSL support, see here:
https://support.google.com/adsense/answer/10528?hl=en
for their ads on SSL sites. Clearly, there’s an issue on the serving on non-https content, but there also seems to be a breaking of some theme element as well, which causes thousands of page errors to generate, as well as many images to not load, and the top of the page to disappear and constantly move to where the troubled ad is.
We’ve only just installed this theme, and are very unfamilar with it, so we appreciate there may be a great chance of user error on our end. I was just hoping perhaps you have some specific knowledge of this type of issue.
The issue can be seen at gravernews{dot}com on the sidebar ad.
It does not show a troublesome ad each pageload however, and sometimes requires multiple loads. It seems whenever the https indicator in the address bar indicates non-secure elements being loaded, that the break in theme function happens. And, haha, no this is not some crazy over-zealous attempt to garnish ad views.
Best Regards,
Zack
From time to time adsense ads break due to loading elements from sites which themselves may be hacked broken, etc.
This was so bad couple of years back, we switched to only serving text ads until they got their shite together.
You might try that temporarily.
You can also setup a local backup ad for your site for when and ad times out completely to avoid those pesky empty spot adds.
Chris,
First, holy sh*t I wasn’t expecting a same-day reply on a Sunday. Thanks for getting back to me so quick.
Thanks for letting me know your experience with adsense, I was certainly suspicious that was the case. I’ve added some blacklisted ad types and ad server domains (?) within the adsene admin, and for now I seem to have avoided.
As an aside, being very pleased with Newsmag so far, both in usability but especially in function, I only just saw the Newspaper theme, and I was wondering if there was a resource available somewhere in which tagDiv had drawn contrasts between the two? I’ve certainly no problem in reading the info on Themeforest and comparing myself, I just thought there may be something especially-prepared already.
Thanks,
Zack
Heh. I don’t work here (TagDiv), but was in my home office Sunday working on our new ecom system, trying valiantly to meet Aug 1 deadline (and doubtful at this moment). Was waiting for FTP stuff to update, so poked my head into the forum here and thought I’d share my thought on that AdSense shenanigans.
I don’t spend much time here anymore, but I have been poking head in re new version of NewsMag which I’ve not had time to upgrade to, so unaware of any new bugaboos and whatnot, hence my comment on a “known devil” … that devil called AdSense 😉
I don’t think there is a “compare” chart between the two themes. Primary diff is the Newspaper is “wide” and the NewsMag is more “narrow” … menu is different, some of the headers are different, pre-built style sets are different, modules are different due to the more narrow width. So on and so forth. Some of the juicy goodness of Newsmag has percolated over to Newspaper v6.
Seems like some stuff needs tweaking, like lazy loading and couple of other things, but it’s been working great based on the “last” version around here. So, “I have faith” 🙂
Hi Chris and gravernews,
sorry for my delayed reply, we missed this message by mistake (we’re updating the back end of this forum to allow easier collaboration for our support staff)
Regarding the adsense issue… we too experience strange errors with some ads, unfortunately we don’t have a solution for this yet.
The main difference between the themes is the design and newspaper also has some additional header styles, big grids and category templates. The two themes share the same core.
@fusion LUPON ads aren’t support by theme’s ad spots, you may use a plugin for it or you could use the wp text widget to render the code: https://forum.tagdiv.com/ads-system-full-guide/
Thanks for the message!
