Changing text header attributes – header/tagline fonts, size, colour, alignment

Hi. I found some CSS on the support forum which was supposed to help with my being able to change the text header font attributes. However, this does not work. Are you able to help me? I have a brand new installation of WordPress and installed the Cafe demo theme (settings only). Quick response appreciated. Many thanks.
