Hello,
After activating child theme from the /code directory there is no sidebars at all. What else needs to be done?

Hello,
If your sidebars disappear after activating the child theme, then it probably means you did not update your child theme. A child theme is not update proof. If the files you have in your child theme were not adapted to the new code, then they have to be replaced with the current version of the files from the main theme.
