child theme loses icons

Hello,

We are using newspaper 8.8.1 with the cryptonews demo.

I have tried to create a child theme by copying the newspaper directory to newspaper_child and changing the description in style.css.
After activating the child theme, a couple of things are missing such as the social icons and the menu arrow icons.
Instead of an Icon I get characters such as \e81d.

Is there a way to fix this?

The theme comes with a child theme inside the ‘code’ folder of the extracted ‘newspaper-rtf’ zip file (download “All files and documentation on theme forest). Use that one to ensure there are no errors.
