Hello,
I am trying to use/add child theme to existing Newspaper theme using the default files provided in code folder.

Problem is that even with no further changes except adding those 2 default files you provided, this is what happens:
Footer is changed

There is no sidebar

Can you please advise how this can be solved?

Please ensure that you are using the latest version of the child theme which comes bundled with the theme packet, trying to clear all your caches and test it again. For more information about child theme support, please check here -> https://forum.tagdiv.com/the-child-theme-support-tutorial/

The last version of the theme is already on our server (7.4), child theme too. Few plugins that we have are disabled. The complete procedure of making the child theme is quite familiar to us (we are technically educated).
Issue appeared after all that was applied by your instructions. Complete website just fall apart. Screen shoots are already attached.
