Dear Newspaper!
The following question keeps me up at night and I can’t solve it for weeks.
Here is my website: https://farkasdezso.hu/
Google Search Console show there is a problem in the CLS part, the Cumulative Layout Shift is too slow, 0.5 sec.
CLS description here, if there is a need, but I’m sure you know what I’m talking about: https://web.dev/vitals/
Google Page Speed Insights shows this:
Diagnostics Apply more information about your performance. These numbers do not directly affect your performance score.
Pixels do not have a defined width and height:
Specify the exact width and height of the pixels to make the layout less slippery and improve CLS.

The 2 pictures mentioned above are what I uploaded to

What shall I change to improve the CLS number or solve this problem?
Thank you,
Dezső
Hi,
Yes, there are some problems with CLS, to have better results, what you can do for the moment is to remove the mega menu, for logo use a cloud header where you can set for logo images or text that have width and height. Also removing the sticky header and sidebar should provide some improvements.
We are testing now a new theme update that we hope it will fix those major problems.
Thank you!
Hi Calin!
Fortunately, CLS is still not a major issue for Speed and SEO score but Google is planning to give more focus to that. So right now, I do not want to do changes, it not worth that recently.
But I would be happy to have a new update that fix these major problems. If it will be within 1-2 months, I would wait for that. If not, then yes, I should change it.
Thank you,
Dezső
Hello Newspaper Team!
I have another CLS question. My CLS time went up to 0.12 and I realized it was because of this:
1. In the first picture, you can see my blog post when I open it.
2. In the second picture, you can see that the picture has a layout for a half second.
In the post settings, I use “Style 7”, I like this one.
How is it possible to fix this layout problem?
thank you,
Dezső
Hello dragonwolf,
Unfortunately, the images are not accessible – https://i.imgur.com/S0EIaMT.png therefore we are not completely sure will refer to the same elements.
From what I see you are using only standard templates and those are not well optimized like the cloud template when it’s come to Core Web Vitals. Also, the theme version you have right now do not have any kind of optimizations for the Core Web Vitals (If I’m right you have a theme version from 2019, v10), what I recommend is to make a full backup for the website and update the theme to the last version, this should resolve some problems like alt on elements, explicit names, adding width/height on logo an other images.
Thank you!
Hi Calin,
Yes, sorry. I forgot to give permission. Also, thank you for the suggestion. I updated the theme to the latest version. It resolved most of the problems, but not this one.
How is it possible to fix this layout problem?
Hi,
For this problem https://i.imgur.com/JDT5JfE.png please go to the theme panel > headers and remove the header logo and add it again, this should resolve the problem.
Also, for this – https://i.imgur.com/sUVYS9P.png you can try a different post stele that one use the featured image as background image and it takes time to load the image and this is causing that CLS (you can use a different standard template or you can use a cloud template that can be better optimized).
Thank you!
