I would like to +1 the suggestion for Newspaper’s support of the Co-Authors Plus plugin.
CAP has 10 years of development behind it (over three iterations), is specifically for newspaper-styled / byline-ready themes, and counts some 100,000 downloads in its current version.

Does anyone know how to make the guest-authors’ author box show up? Or how to conditionally insert multiple author boxes in version 4?
