It could be a combination of colors set in the theme panel here

Thanks, it’s the theme accent colour that was the issue. Although it seems if you change it from anything other than the default it just blocks the colour over the word, as in my original screen shot?

The theme accent color will influence various elements on the website. The related articles section will also be influenced by the settings mentioned in the screenshot
