I’ve seen on suindependent.com and communitynewspapers.com under the comments area on posts there are three checkboxes:
Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.
Notify me of follow-up comments by email.
Notify me of new posts by email.
How are these options added and then linked to be able to function properly?

Hello,
Unfortunately, the theme doesn’t have this option.
What I can suggest to you is to use a plugin like Jetpack, in this article you can find the necessary steps to set those options => https://jetpack.com/support/subscriptions/
