Updated to version 8.5, and now comments don’t show on pages anymore. Theme panel option for not showing comments on pages is not activated so they should show.

I am facing issue after activation of newspaper 8.1.1 to 8.5 it’s showing me blank page and nothing

In line 111 there’s this:
if($td_enable_or_disable_page_comments == 'show_comments' and !$is_buddypress_template) {

I took out and !$is_buddypress_template and the it works again. I don’t use buddypress…

The comments work as expected. You just have to enable them from here: https://www.screencast.com/t/OMB1Q4QwT
I just tested the option and it works without altering the theme code.

Thank you!

I always had comments on for the pages it stopped working, the checkbox is checked. Putting that line about buddypress back in makes it not work for me.

Post count: 44

I don’t really get the logic of the buddypress check…

$is_buddypress_template = true;
// check if buddypress is active
if ( function_exists( 'is_buddypress' ) ) {
    // Check if we are on buddypress
    $is_buddypress_template = is_buddypress();
}

first the value is set to true, but in the function_exists check how is the value set to false if it only checks for true…

This way the !$is_buddypress_template condition will fail and comments aren’t shown, right?

The same page template is used on buddypress templates so the comments have been disabled on buddypress templates. The code check if the page template is used forbuddypress and if not, it shows the comments. https://www.screencast.com/t/WnlVKGLx
Please leave the code intact and if the comments do not show up, please contact us via email at contact@tagdiv.com and provide wp-admin and ftp access so we can login and investigate.

Thank you!

I understand line 111 does the buddypress check, but how is that ever going to get a value of false if in line 32 you set it to true $is_buddypress_template = true; and then have an if statement that will only do something when buddypress is active?

Post count: 22421

Hello,
The condition is reversed. If buddypress is found, the condition returns false. Here is a var dump of the variable set on a page that is set as the buddypress members page:
As you can see the variable can return false. It returns true if no buddypress is found.

Thank you!

Hi, I’m having the same problem. My comments got disabled on all pages even though they are enabled both in pages and theme panel. Had to switch to another theme in the meanwhile because I couldn’t find a fix.

Hello shinsori,

Please send us an email at contact@tagdiv.com with your log-in information (wp-admin) so we can further inspect it closer your setup page. Unfortunately, we cannot recreate this issue on our end. It’s possible to be a bug in the theme but it’s not something concrete. Provide there the link to this topic so we can quickly identify you.

Thanks for the message!

Hello JohanBk,

Send us an email with your credentials and full FTP access to contact@tagdiv.com. Before these, you have to make a full backup to your database because we will disable all of your untested plugins for deeper investigations.

Thanks.

Hi All

I have the same problem all comments are disabled on all pages…

I have disabled all the plugins but the problem is not solved but if you enable the wordpress theme by default the comments return visible

just reactivate the newspaper theme and the comments disappear again.

thanks

Hi nute, the support wasn’t of any help.
I resolved the problem with ronnie’s method.

Just look for a line he mentions in page.php and remove it.

Make sure to make backups first just in case though!

Hi,

Email sent,

Thanks!

Hi Bogdan, is there now a solution to this, I have the exact same issue. I do not want to provide credentials, as disabling deeply troubleshooting the plugins kills major functionality in my website that is in production. None of the solutions offered so far fix the issue, and I disabled all plugins and reverted back to 8.5 from 8.5.1 they both have the same problem.
see

There should be comments.

I just fixed it on my site by using page.php from earlier in the year that does not contain the buddypress checks.
The buddy press checks are at fault Bogdan.

here is the file that works perfectly – if you do not use buddypress.

//read the custom single post settings – this setting overids all of them
