Correct order of updates / Revolution slider

Hi,

I’m worried what’s the right order to update themes and plugins.
Right now: WP 4.9.9 / Newsmag 4.3 / Visual Composer 5.01 / PHP 7.1

What’s the recommended way to avoid potential trouble? First theme, then Composer, then WordPress to 5.03? Over other way round?

Bonus question: Revolution slider (which I never used as far as I can see) caused some ugly memory limit-problems when I updated to the latest version. Can I drop this plugin completely? Or do Visual-Composer and/or Newsmag need files and features from this plugin?

Thanks for your support
Petra

Hi Petra,

First of all, you need to update the WordPress t the latest version of it and then, download the latest theme’s packet from your Themeforest account because this will come with the latest version of the theme and required plugins.;

Thanks for your understanding!

Hi Catalin,

thanks for your feedback. I’ve downloaded the whole packet already. As soon WordPress 5.03 is installed – what part of the theme-packet should be updated first to avoid problems? Newsmag-theme? Or visual composer first? Or doesn’t matter?

And what about Revolution Slider? Is it necessary at all for correct functioning of the theme or can I delete/ignore it?

Best
Petra

Hi,

First of all, you need to update the Newsmag theme and then, update the plugin with the version which comes bundled with the theme core files.

Thanks for the message!

Hi,

will do – thanks. What about Revolution Slider? Must-have to ensure that Newsmag works properly (as it is part of the packet)? Or can I ignore/deinstall the plug-in if I don’t need it?

Thanks
Petra

Hi,

Yes, if you do not want to use the Revolution Plugin, you can remove it.

Thanks.
