Is it possible to change the displayed image in the “slide” block to show a cover photo as an alternative to the featured image from the post? we’d like to use the slide to show a large image associated with that post without altering the featured image on that post.

Unfortunately, we do not have a setting like this in our theme.
You should modify the element to accept the cover photo instead of the feature image, and this will require custom work which is not covered by the support team.
