Default Custom post sidebar

Hi,

I have a question about sidebars. I have set a primary category sidebar, so the category page AND every post in that category will have that sidebar by default. But I want a different sidebar for the post. I can set it manually in every post, but we are a news website with 100 posts a day and it is easy to forget. So, is there any way to override the primary category sidebar, and by default show a custom post sidebar without setting it manually?

Thank you!

P.S: I’m not sure if I explained it well. We want every category to have its own sidebar, and every post to have the same sidebar (mainly for showing ads)

Hi,

All the posts have a primary category, either you set one or not. If not set then the first one alphabetically will be picked, or the only one.

Once you set one then that will be primary. Posts will inherit the sidebar like you mention and the background. Also the breadcrumbs will display the primary category in the path to the post. When the post appears in a block or grid the category tag will be the primary category

This would be the functionality of this feature, it is meant to help with the sidebar control as you can maintain the sidebars for more posts at once for example.

The only way to have the posts not inherit the sidebar of the primary category, is to set one manually for that post. That will override the category sidebar.

Thanks
