Default Site Post Template

Hi,

I have customised some posts with a specific template but now want to make all posts have the same default post template which is referred to as the default.

Can you please tell me how to do this?

Thank you.

Derek

Hi,

Please provide more details about the custom modifications that you have done as I’m not sure what you mean.

Thanks!

Hi Alin,

No I haven’t made any custom modifications – for some posts I’ve chosen a template other than the global default.

I would now like to use the default post template for ALL my posts current and in the future.

Thanks

Derek

Hi,

@findlay
It is specified in the documentation how these settings work – http://screencast.com/t/4cbCZGUB
If you set DEFAULT SITE POST TEMPLATE from Theme Panel > Post Settings, so if your posts are set on template from panel – http://screencast.com/t/ywN7D8AtKF will inherit that post style.

Thanks!

Alin,

I undertstand.

The point is some of my posts are NOT set on template from panel and I don’t want to have to trawl through all my posts to identify them, then set them to template from panel so I’m looking for a way to do this automatically.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Derek

Hi,

You can comment this line – http://screencast.com/t/CtlZ87O8a8 and remove or comment this code – http://screencast.com/t/Aukc0qt5FJ8
First please make a backup of your current file and note that if you make this modifications the individual post template will have no effect – http://screencast.com/t/XXmwrVnXt

Thanks!

Hi Alin,

Thanks but I may want to change the post template for a particular post in future.

Surely there must be another way?

Hi Alin,

I’ve checked and all my posts are set to from panel but for some reason posts categorised as “Dating” are not using the deafult global template but are missing the sidebar.

You can check on my site – howdoidate.com and you’ll see.

Hi,

1. I guess you can do this from your database, unfortunately I cannot provide a quick solution for this and I suggest to hire someone to do this for you as it is not so easy and the time doesn’t allow us to provide custom work, sorry!
2. I have checked some of your posts from Dating category and they are set to default template, but if they are set on full width(no sidebar) from individual settings, then the sidebar will not be displayed.

Thanks!

Thanks Alin.

Is there an easier way than me having to trawl through all the posts to find the ones with no sidebar and then add it?

I cannot foresee a time when I wouldn’t want a sidebar on each and every post so surely there must be a way to set the default to with sidebar and override any posts that are set with no sidebar?

Thanks

Derek

Hi,

Like on post template the individual post setting overwrite the global settings. Only if you disable the individual settings the global will be applied, but this will affect all your posts(including the new published).
Again you can do this in your database, so the theme settings(code) will not be affected, unfortunately I cannot provide a solution if you do this.

Thanks!
