Default Thumbnail On Archive/Tax pages

Is there any hook or code I can tap into that will allow me override the default thumbnail that is returned. When a post has no featured image, I see the following show up on archive pages.

/wp-content/themes/Newspaper/images/no-thumb/medium_large.png

Is there a way for me to override this so that I can use different defaults depending on the category or some other factor of the post that will dictate a reasonable default image

There is an option in the theme, in case that the post do not have a featured image to use the one set in the theme panel -> https://i.imgur.com/LLWWzeu.png
