first of all beg with me for the silly question but I’m a real newbie in the field.
I’ve purchased the newspaper theme and my goal would be having the layout shown in the Dark or Tech demos, as per my understanding I should install aforementioned demos without content and… be done with it.
Of course I was wrong as I’ve tried that and while my content is still there I could not find an easy way to come up with a site even looking close to what is showcased in thereforest demo.
My (silly) question is there any guide I can follow to accomplish the goal?
As I said my experience with this is second only to my lack of creativity 🙂 If there is any kind of customisation service etc. I would be more than glad to pay for that.

Sorry but we do not have a customization department. Here is a little help. I assume you are referring to the homepage layout of the black demo. Please do as follows:
1. Install the black demo without content: http://screencast.com/t/usORxIMiC3n
2. Create a new page in the WP admin dashboard.
3. Access classic mode and text mode like so: http://screencast.com/t/nkpWAHGOnW
4. Paste all of the content from this link into your page in text mode: http://pastebin.com/gw71YSyi
5. Save the page and set it as your homepage
Now you will have the exact demo layout without installing the dummy content.

Am I stretching it if I also ask for the Tech News demo source page as well? I am still unsure which of the two would fit my needs better and would like to try both.

Apparently I spoke too early.
I’ve tried suggested customisation on my dev temporary installation, all seemed to be fine as you can see at http://dev.helocheck.com
I’ve exported demo settings and the page’s code/definition, imported everything in my “production” installation and result is this [url=https://postimg.org/image/vhoekh8ov/]https://postimg.org/image/vhoekh8ov/
Not exactly what planned.
It seems settings in the theme/page are not honoured as here’s what I have in the page using the BackEnd editor (matching exactly what I have in the dev domain) https://postimg.org/image/i8ds4blrl/
I have disabled all plugins but the ones coming bundled with the theme, I have flushed all caches and even used different browsers on different computers all to no avail.
Is there anything written to the DB that I should flush? No caching plugin is currently used so not sure what the culprit could be here.

There could be an issue with our import/export system. We had a few reports of this kind as well so we are investigating this matter. We will provide a proper solution when it is found. Sorry for the inconvenience. You will have to set the theme panel manually until a solution is found.
